How To Find Your PCM Code

2005+ Mustang Owners:

2005+ Mustang owners, your PCM is located in the engine compartment. Pop your hood and look on the passenger side between the back of the passenger side headlight and front of the passenger side valve cover. You will see a silver box with a white tag located on the top, side, or back. This white tag will have your 4 digit PCM/Calibration code. This is the easiest way to find it, and will allow us to create a custom calibration for your vehicle. The other way to obtain your current PCM code is to read the code directly from the PCM. If your dealership has updated your code during regular maintenence, sometimes they fail to tell you, and also fail to replace the sticker to match your current code. If you want to get the code that way, you must first purchase a programmer from us, and then we can email the tunes over to you once you have gotten the code. For more info, skip the next paragraph, and go right to paragraph 3.

Where do I find the PCM catch code? You can find the catch code for your PCM in a few places. You are looking for a combination of letters and numbers in bold. Some common examples are "XZE3", "PSP1", "A9L", etc. Older vehicles will have a 3 digit code while later vehicles have a 4 digit code. In most 2000 and newer vehicles it will be on small white sticker located in the driver’s door jam even with the dash. Older vehicles you will have to locate the PCM and read it off of either the connector at the front or the J3 cover at the back of the computer. Once you have the PCM code, this code can be entered directly into our Advantage III software to create a custom tuning file.

The PCM code can also be retrieved using an SCT flash device such as the X3 Powerflash device or SCT XCalibrator 2. To do this, plug the device into your vehicle's OBDII port, located under the drivers side dash (on most applications). Once the device is powered up and sitting on the main menu, scroll down until you see "Vehicle Info" and hit Select. Now navigate down until you see "Read Strategy" and hit Select. Follow the on-screen instructions until the code is displayed, and write it down. Some common Ford strategy codes are "FPASAGE" and "FPAN0U4". This code will tell us what your 4-Digit PCM code is when we use our software.

If you have a newer vehicle that has been back to the dealership before OR you plan on going back to the dealership, please be advised that your PCM code could have changed or could be changed due to reflashing updates. Dealerships are notorious for updating your PCM during regular maintnence and warranty repair without replacing the sticker on your PCM. If you currently own a flash device, please plug it in and choose "Vehicle Info" from the main menu. Select "Read Strategy" and follow the on-screen instructions to get your strategy code before you go to the dealership. Write it down. Once you get your vehicle back from the dealership, always read the strategy and make sure it is the same as what you wrote down BEFORE you reflash again.
